Intellectualis is a bi-monthly, student-run e-newsletter undertaken by the Intellectual Property Rights Committee (IPRC). We seek to facilitate vibrant discussion among the IP legal and academic fraternity in exploring developments in intellectual property law and its various interactions with other subjects.
We are thrilled to introduce the upcoming volume of Intellectualis (2023 – 2024) as a series of collaborations planned with reputed organisations and law firms. For the month of September, we have partnered with Fashion Law Journal (FLJ).
FLJ, a venture of Legal Desire Media and Insights, is a leading provider of legal insights for the fashion industry. For the past 8 years, the organization has been dedicated to publishing quality insights in the field of fashion law, both in digital and print format. The goal is to assist fashion brands in understanding the legalities, compliances, and government schemes available to them, while also offering regular training, masterclasses, and courses in fashion law. As a valuable resource for legal issues in the fashion industry, FLJ serves as a professional network for fashion industry professionals, including industry lawyers, law firms, and advisors. The organization aims to provide expert, timely, and relevant insights on all aspects of fashion law, covering topics such as starting a business in the fashion world, legal issues, trends, design, technology, and global glamour.
In light of the same, we are pleased to invite submissions for our September issue on the theme ‘’Runways, Galleries and Courtrooms: IP in Fashion and Art“, in the form of articles, case analyses, and other works including comic strips and artwork.
Some indicative sub-themes include:
- The Artistry Behind Fashion — From couture designs to avant-garde collaborations, artistic expressions have shaped the very fabric of fashion. Our special theme urges contributors to explore the stories behind best-selling fashion creations that were born from artistic inspiration. Dive into discussions about how legal protection impacts these artistic works, ensuring their legacy endures.
- Safeguarding Creativity — Intellectual Property protection stands as a guardian of creative ingenuity. We are excited to receive submissions that unravel the legal tapestry surrounding fashion design, copyrights, and trademarks. You may examine the legal strategies employed to safeguard artistic visions in the ever-evolving landscape of fashion and arts.
- Cultivating Collaboration — Art and fashion collaborations have sparked cultural revolutions. Through our theme, we invite insightful analyses of legal challenges within these partnerships. Explore the legal dimensions of collaborative projects, uncovering how artists, designers, and legal experts navigate the intricacies of protecting and sharing their innovative creations when the lines of ownership are murky.
- Fashion and Cultural Heritage — Contributors may explore the delicate balance between the pursuit of commercial interests and the appropriation of Traditional Cultural Expressions (TCEs), and its interaction with the law. This can be a complex issue, as fashion designers and companies often rely on cultural heritage for inspiration and innovation.
Submissions will be reviewed in two levels, each by the IPRC and FLJ respectively. Kindly submit your entries by 15th September, 2023to ipr@law. christuniversity.in.
The committee may be contacted through its official email address at ipr@law.christuniversity.in for inquiries and clarifications.
